Remember that sultry dance number of Richard Gere and Jennifer Lopez? Oh, man! Of course, I’m talking about the movie “Shall We Dance?” a romantic comedy where a bored, overworked Estate Lawyer, upon first sight of a beautiful instructor, signs up for ballroom dancing lessons. I love how Lopez describes to Gere about dancing the rumba:

Paulin (Lopez): “The rumba is the vertical expression of a horizontal wish. You have to hold her, like the skin on her thigh is your reason for living. Let her go, like your heart’s being ripped from your chest. Throw her back, like you’re going to have your way with her right here on the dance floor. And then finish, like she’s ruined you for life.”

This song “Santa Maria (del Buen Ayre)” was performed by the Paris-based music group Gotan Project composed of a French, an Argentine and a Swiss. The song comes from the La Revancha del Tango album was featured as the music for the main dance sequence in the 2004 movie. The name of the trio is a play on the name of a famous tango compilation album, the Tango Project, that featured several American classical musicians who came together to record a tango album. Hence, the word “Tango” became “Gotan.”

Ciara: The Evolution became Ciara’s first number one album on the US Billboard 200 and second on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts with sales of more than 338,000 becoming her highest first week of sales to date. It sold over two million copies worldwide. The album’s international lead single “Get Up” which features Chamillionaire reached number seven in the United States and gained a platinum accreditation. It reached number five in New Zealand. The song was used for the film Step Up and featured on the film’s soundtrack.

Ciara is an American singer, songwriter, dancer, actress and fashion model. She said that watching Destiny’s Child and Janet Jackson perform on a television program while staying home from school inspired her to pursue a career in music, and cites superstar siblings Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson as her biggest inspiration. Ciara is quoted to have reached what she considered “a career pinnacle” when she recorded with Janet Jackson on Jackson’s 2008 Discipline album. In October 2008 Ciara was honored as Billboard’s “Woman of the Year”, because of her success as a recording artist and leadership in embracing the changing music business.

In 2009 Ciara signed a multi-million dollar deal with the modeling agency Wilhelmina Models. On November 9, 2009 it was announced that Ciara would be modeling in the German edition of “Vogue”. During that time, it was also announced that Ciara would be the new face of a major multimedia ad campaign for Verizon’s smartphone the LG Chocolate Touch. In March 2010 it was officially confirmed and announced that Ciara was the spokesperson in the new ad campaign for Adidas Originals.

For now, Ciara is focusing on promoting Basic Instinct, an album she hopes will inspire her fans – both to have fun to and to pursue their dreams. It’s also a landmark record for an artist who has hit a comfortable creative stride. “I’m really running with my ‘basic instinct’ — the first feeling. I’m even giving more of myself, too, because I’m really private. Over the years, my music has been my voice. With Basic Instinct, I wanted to give more.”
